Karl Maier Bio

Karl K. Maier is the founder of Abunden and the creator of the Abunden Framework© business operating system. He also designed the Abunden Management Toolbox software.

Karl began working as a manager or consultant to companies ranging from startups to 100 people in 1991. Since that time, he’s been part of the leadership team in five established companies that have at least doubled sales in two years, co-founded three software companies and has been involved with all aspects of small business.

Growth: Managed or advised five companies which doubled their sale in two years

Entrepreneur: Co-founded three software companies including two SaaS companies and one B2B Marketplace

Talent Optimization: Aligning teams to strategic goals using science and data.

Economics: Economic analysis of pricing, business models, and cost allocation. Received degree (B.A.) from Rice University

M&A: Buy and sell-side experience on deals up to $40MM including both stock and asset sales

Financing: Advise companies on debt and equity funding to support rapid growth and turnaround situations

Turnarounds: After passing the Turnaround Management Certification Exam, worked with distressed companies to improve cash flow and deal with Chapter 11 requirements

Systems: Business analysis for information systems in major financial corporation and for software companies

CFO: Chief Financial Officer to several lower middle-market companies including financial analysis and reporting, management and systems

Sales: Regularly identifies new opportunities by optimizing sales and marketing practices in smaller companies

MBA: Master of Business Administration degree from Rice University concentrating in Entrepreneurship and Information Systems

Accounting: Strong understanding of accounting concepts and financial analysis skills. Licensed as a CPA for over 30 years before retiring license.
